Assistant Accountant – Credit Control & Revenue Assurance

Manufacturing, Production ~ Retail, Wholesale
Chitungwiza – Zimbabwe

Our client in the FMCG Manufacturing industry is looking for Assistant Accountant – Credit Control & Revenue Assurance with strong background in FMCG industry, doing customers’ debt collections. The incumbent will be responsible for managing customer credit control from onboarding through ongoing account management and eventual account closure. Assess new credit applications using payment capacity, expected volumes, proposed terms, security, concentration risk, commercial importance and appropriate background checks. Maintain a customer security register covering guarantees, deposits, collateral, post-dated cheques where applicable, insurance/security arrangements, expiry dates and renewal requirements. Recommend credit limits and payment terms based on documented risk assessment. Sales may motivate the commercial opportunity; Credit Control independently assesses whether the proposed exposure is financially acceptable. Monitor credit-limit utilisation and identify breaches promptly. Recommend stop-supply, revised terms or enhanced security where risk exceeds approved parameters. Ensure approved terms, limits and customer master-data attributes are accurately maintained through controlled workflows and segregation of duties. Conduct customer visits, jointly with Sales where appropriate, for material disputes, overdue balances or significant credit-risk matters. Ensure every valid delivery note confirmed as loaded by Warehouse is invoiced on the same day. Maintain daily visibility over loaded-but-uninvoiced deliveries, rejected invoices, pricing errors, incomplete documentation and system/interface failures. Protect segregation of duties between receipt allocation, invoicing and credit-note creation. Risk-based or higher-frequency reconciliation is an additional control, not a substitute for monthly reconciliation. Ensure reconciliations capture invoices, receipts, credit notes, returns, rebates, claims, disputes and opening/closing balances. The Assistant Accountant may review and approve credit notes within delegated authority but may not create the same credit note. Maintain a register of customer rebate agreements and validate qualifying volumes, payment compliance, ageing conditions, rates and settlement before credits are approved. Reconcile rebate accruals against actual settlements. Supplier rebates receivable remain outside this role. Provide the Financial Accountant with customer-level evidence for expected-credit-loss and bad-debt assessments, including ageing, payment history, disputes, security, promises, legal status and recovery probability. Ensure significant recovery assumptions are evidence-based and traceable. Identify accounts requiring legal recovery and prepare complete case files supported by reconciliations and transaction history. Coordinate operationally with Legal and maintain visibility of recovery progress, legal costs, settlements and security enforcement. Escalate material litigation, settlement and write-off decisions to the Head of Finance for approval under the delegated-authority framework. The Assistant Accountant owns the operational performance of the receivables function while maintaining strict segregation of duties across the transaction cycle.

Qualifications & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline. Professional accounting qualification or active progress toward CIMA, ACCA, CA(Z), CIS or equivalent strongly preferred. Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience in receivables, credit control, accounting or working-capital management. At least 2–3 years’ supervisory experience. Practical exposure to credit risk, customer reconciliations, collections forecasting, ledger control and commercial stakeholder management. Strong ERP capability, preferably SAP Business One or an equivalent high-volume financial/operational platform. Advanced Microsoft Excel and strong capability in ageing analytics, reconciliations, exception reporting and management dashboards. Comfort with workflow/approval systems and the ability to understand system controls, master data and audit trails.  Ability to interrogate data independently and identify anomalies without relying on IT or FP&A for routine analysis.

A generous salary package will be offered to the successful candidate.
